Your NQT year is an exciting time: new students to meet, your classroom to prepare and resources and lessons to create. In the current context, following a long period of a different approach to school, there's an increased sense of responsibility to support and engage all of your students and their individual needs. You’re also responsible for the progress of all of your students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ). In January 2019, the government reported that 1,318,300 students were identified as having ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ, which is equivalent to 14.9% of all students across our classrooms in England.

In this webinar you will be able to hear from an experienced ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ Leader on how your role can make a difference to the lives of all students and especially those with ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ. You'll find out about the Code of Practice and the 4 Areas of Need and how you can foster an inclusive classroom from the start. You'll receive tips and advice on supporting all ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ students, where to access fantastic resources and find out how the last few months may have impacted upon the students with ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ so that you will be teaching.

Rachel Hargreaves

Rachel is the Regional ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ Leader for Whole School ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ in the North. She has extensive experience in ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ at senior and executive leadership level and across the education sector.  Rachel has been a mainstream secondary headteacher within a cross phase Multi-Academy Trust. She is currently Director of Academy Improvement across a 4-school special Multi-Academy Trust in the North East and Headteacher of an 11-19 special school for children and young people with Autism and complex needs.  Rachel has delivered ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ Reviewer training to many colleagues in the North over the past year and has also supported a number of Local Authorities to review their ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ strategies.
